Level 4 Professional Foot Trimming

This 5-day course which prepares you for the level 4 qualification is aimed at professional and experienced in-house trimmers. The course consists of 2 days working on theory and cadaver limbs in the classroom, followed by three days working on professional trimmer activities on-farm. On the last day there are mock assessments to help you prepare for the final exam, which is undertaken once you have completed a suitable amount of further practice, study and revision following the course.

What does the course involve:

. Demonstrations, discussion, problem solving and practical exercises

. A large element of practical foot trimming on more advanced techniques,

. Broader elements related to expert knowledge, supporting clients and delivering a professional service.

. Candidates successfully completing the course will receive a Certificate of Completion

. Following a period of consolidation (around 1000 cows), candidates will be eligible for an examination to gain a competency qualification issued by RAU and recognised at level 4 in the UK.

. The assessment is in two parts: a 2000 word workbook which needs to be completed and passed before moving onto the practical.

. Completion of this course will allow the candidates to join the Cattle Hoof Care Standards Board Register.

For the Advanced and/or experienced trimmer. This course encompasses the theory and practical elements of dairy cattle foot trimming alongside hoof health management in the dairy herd.
